The Cape of Good Hope SPCA had a virtual walk event this weekend that helped them make more than R180,000, R30,000 above their target, enabling them to buy a kit for repairing bone fractures in their furry patients.
The #PawFeetLove event was held on Saturday and Sunday. It didn’t matter what distance was walked, the SPCA said, “you are simply walking to honour victims of cruelty and neglect whose broken bones prevent them from doing the same.”
Many people posted pics of themselves walking their dogs on the two days.
The SPCA had originally targeted raising R150 000 “for the purchase of a plating kit to enable us to mend every bone fracture possible and save every life and every limb of every orthopaedic patient who needs us.” But by Monday they had R180,000, with more money still coming in.
“YOU DID IT!!!!” the SPCA said on Facebook. “Thank you to every single participant and every single person who supported those who walked in our #pawfeetlove #savelifeandlimb event this past weekend.
“We can’t even begin to tell you how happy we are today! This bone plating kit will change lives, not just the lives of the animals we treat but ours too! Thank you for this wonderful gift you have given us that will allow us in turn to give the gift of healing. It’s priceless!”
