The heartbroken girlfriend of Eddie Hills, who was brutally attacked on his father’s Hennenman farm in the early hours of Friday morning 6 November, has taken to social media to plead for prayers for Eddie’s recovery.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Eddie was stabbed in the back during the attack on Zwartpan farm in which his father was killed with a fatal shot to the head. It is believed that the knife penetrated one of Eddie’s lungs, said Farmers Safety SA.
Twenty-four year old Marizanè du Plessis, who has been dating Eddie since 2016 (according to his FB page), wrote this morning:
I usually don’t post, but today is bitterly important. My boyfriend in the photo is a Hennenman farmer who is currently fighting for his life after a farm attack.
All that I ask from the depths of my heart, please pray and pray as much as possible for his safety. I, my family as well as his would appreciate it tremendously. Thank you very much
The original Afrikaans version of her post reads: “Ek post gewoonlik nie, maar vandag is bitter belangrik. My kêrel in die foto, is ‘n boer van Hennenman wat tans veg vir sy lewe na ‘n plaasaanval. Al wat ek vra uit die diepte van my hart, bid en bid asseblief soveel as moontlik vir sy veiligheid. Ek, my familie sowel as syne sal dit ongelooflik waardeer. Baie dankie.”
Eddie has several romantic posts on his page featuring Marizanè. Both studied at North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom, according to their Facebook profiles.
Farm employees found 26-year-old Eddie lying, seriously wounded, in the kitchen this morning, said SAPS. According to local reports, it appears he had walked in on the attackers who had already tied his father, Pieter Hills, up.
SAPS says: “It is alleged that the farmer was attacked in the house and shot in the head, whilst the son was overpowered on his arrival and stabbed in the back.”
The scene was discovered by farm employees at around 05h00 this morning after Eddie’s mother, who was in Joburg at the time, asked a worker to check the house because she couldn’t get hold of her husband or son.
Eddie is currently in hospital in Welkom.
SAPS is investigating a case of murder and house robbery (at least two handguns were stolen) and has launched a manhunt for the unknown number of suspects.
