South African wine estate Creation has achieved Top 10 status in the prestigious list of the World’s 50 Best Vineyards, as voted by 500 leading wine experts from around the world.
Creation Wine Estate, in Hemel-en-Aarde valley in the Western Cape, is the top-ranked SA vineyard included in this year’s Top 50 World’s Best Vineyards, being ranked number 10 on the planet… and number one in Africa!
Commenting on this stunning achievement, Carolyn Martin, co-owner of Creation, said:
“We are thrilled to having been awarded 10th place in the top 50 vineyards in the world – a recognition that South African vineyards hold their place among the best in the world. When we look at the world’s top vineyards across the wine regions of North and South America, Europe, and Australasia, we are truly honoured to be recognized in the top 10.

The Top 50 list showcases the very best of wine tourism and aims to elevate the visitor experience in the vineyards and surrounding areas. The Voting Academy consists of over 500 international wine experts, sommeliers and travel journalists who submit their nominations based on the different factors that make the best destination trip including quality of the overall experience, ambiance, cuisine, activities, views, staff and value for money. The results are then collated and converted into the top 50 list.
Carolyn added: “We’re also flattered to have won The Great Wine Capitals 2021 Wine Tourism Innovation Award. Tourism is of such vital importance to South Africa and despite the very harmful impact of Covid 19 on our tourism industry, we are determined to play our part in contributing to future growth, particularly in our region.”
The World’s 50 Best Vineyards list showcases the very best vineyards from across the world to a large audience, both in person and online, and this year, the awards ceremony, hosted by the German Wine Institute, took place on Monday 20 September in Schloss Johannisberg in Germany.
