As the rainbow nation finds an increasing number of potholes at the end of the rainbow, rather than pots of gold, comedian Themba Robin has produced this hilarious (and sad!) ‘truly South African safari’ video… explaining how an asexual single pothole can multiply into a family of potholes.

Narrating in a brilliant David Attenborough accent, Themba explains that South African potholes are “extinct only in the Western Cape” and are “far superior to other species found elsewhere in the world”.

Themba posted the video less than 24 hours ago, and it’s already received over half a million views on Facebook. Watch below to see why. “A short true story…” he says.

South African social media user, Tessa V joked (or not!) that “today I had to use my indicator to go around one. I think they are mutating.”

Marica M revealed: “I am sad to say that this feared creature is prevalent in a certain area of the Western Cape. They spotted the weakness of Cederberg Municipality and are multiplying at an alarming rate. Efforts by the civilian population to eradicate them has been met with strong opposition from the people tasked with fighting the unnecessary increase in potholes. According to Cederberg Municipality, potholes can only be dealt with during dry months. Sources close to the infested areas have noted exponential increase in pothole sightings in the past 10 years.”

Yolanda M summed up most South Africans’ response to Themba’s video: “I love and hate this .. so brilliant ?”
