There was good news for diesel motorists in particular with confirmation of a significant drop in prices from today, Wednesday, 5 April.

RIP | FORMER SPRINGBOK COACH IAN MCINTOSH DIES

The diesel price was cut by between 74 and 75 cents per litre inland and by 81 to 82 cents per litre at the coast.

Meanwhile, there was a 1 cent per litre decrease in 93 petrol, and a 2 cents per litre increase in 95 octane inland, while those at the coast saw an eight and five cent per litre drop in 93 petrol and 95 octane, respectively.

Fuel prices are largely determined by the oil price, as well as the rand as oil is priced in dollars.

While the brent oil price had fallen to around $80 a barrel, it’s currently trading closer to $85.

The rand has taken a knock in recent weeks and months.

In recent days it has been steadying, getting a major lift following a bigger-than-expected rate hike last week Thursday.

At the time of publishing the rand/dollar exchange rate is R17.87/$.
