FRENCH SOLO SAILOR SAFE – Everyone is overjoyed to hear that a French solo sailor is safe and well

French solo sailor, Emmanuel Dailler (56) has arrived safely at Martinique Island in the French Caribbean! According to the NSRI, “everyone is overjoyed” at the news of the yachtsman’s safe arrival, after he was last seen on 2 March in South Africa; and he has apparently informed his wife and family of the good news that he is safe and well.

Dailler’s arrival in the Caribbean was overdue leading to concerns for his safety, and search enquiries being launched. Dailler had last been seen at the beginning of March when he set sail from Hout Bay Yacht Club.

“The NSRI, Maritime authorities, French authorities and the Maritime Community at large had been monitoring to hear any news of the whereabouts of Mr. Dailler’s progress after he left Hout Bay Yacht Club on 2 March, 2023 and was believed to be heading to Martinique Island, French Caribbean,” the NSRI said in a statement today.

Dailler arrived during the early hours of Sunday morning, SA time today, 23 April 2023.

“NSRI are relieved to hear that Mr. Dailler is safe and would like to thank all those involved in coordinating the search effort,” the search and rescue organisation said in a statement on Sunday.

The NSRI had remained in close contact with Dailler’s family in cooperation with French authorities and South African authorities.

“We urge all sailors to ensure that their safety equipment, such as EPIRBs, are up to date and in good working condition, as they can be life-saving in an emergency situation.

“Always have a number of communication devices to keep in communication when embarking on long voyages,” said the NSRI.

“We are confident that more information will be forthcoming following this fantastic news.

“NSRI express gratitude to all who showed concerns and who assisted in this enquiry. In particular the media are commended for the wide coverage achieved on behalf of the concerned family.”
