A 25-year-old Constable, Silas Masemola, attached to police Crime Intelligence in Johannesburg was convicted of premeditated murder in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 26 April.

CONSTABLE DISMISSED FROM POLICE AFTER MURDER INVESTIGATION BY IPID

Constable Silas Masemola was convicted of the premeditated murder of his 31-year-old girlfriend, Puleng Khumalo.

Masemola shot and killed Khumalo, who was in the bathroom, at Protea Ext 39, Soweto, on 4 April 2022 at approximately 17:00.

“The member shot and killed his Girlfriend who was in the bathroom. He however, told the police that the deceased shot herself using his service pistol,” said Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) national spokesperson Robbie Raburabu.

Investigation revealed the victim could not have shot herself, and Masemola was arrested. He has since been dismissed from the police service after recommendations from IPID.

The convicted murderer will be sentenced in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on 9 May.
