The ANC is pursuing a defamation case against Andre de Ruyter after allegations he made in a televised interview.

The African National Congress (ANC) is pressing ahead with its defamation case against former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter, and the Pretoria High Court granted it permission to serve court papers overseas on Wednesday, 3 May.

ANC SEEKS DE RUYTER RETRACTION OF STATEMENTS AND DECLARATION OF DEFAMATION

According to News24, De Ruyter is believed to be staying in Germany. He left South Africa shortly after he was asked to leave Eskom before completing his notice period.

De Ruyter’s exit came on the heels of a bombshell television interview in which he alleged senior officials in the governing party were involved in widespread corruption at Eskom.

De Ruyter, who was allegedly poisoned in December after announcing his resignation, left South Africa after his Eskom exit and has cited safety concerns as the reason,

News24 reported that Pretoria High Court granted the ANC an edictal citation, which allows it to serve court papers in a foreign country. The papers will be served by a person recognised under German laws.

In the defamation case, the ANC wants him to retract the statements made in the interview and the court to declare them defamatory.

The former Eskom boss recently appeared virtually before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) and was questioned by members about the allegations. However, he refused to name any politicians allegedly involved in corruption.

Another recent report alleged that the reports de Ruyter’s statements were based on were unverified intelligence reports.
