Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi has shared an encouraging video of him continuing his recovery from knee surgery.

Earlier this month, SA Rugby said it would monitor the rehabilitation of Siya Kolisi following surgery on an injury suffered to his right knee in a recent United Rugby Championship match.

Kolisi underwent the operation at the beginning of May, and Springbok team doctor Jerome Mampane and his medical team will continue to monitor his recovery and rehabilitation.

Mampane said it was too early to make any reliable forecasts on when Kolisi may be able to return to play.

Kolisi has begun his injury rehabilitation programme, and by the sights and sounds of his latest video shared to Instagram, he is remaining in high spirits.

The 31-year-old looked to be feeling strong as he got stuck into work on a stationary bike on ‘day 17’ of his recovery.

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber stated in the SA Rugby statement: “We wish Siya well during his recovery and we know that he will do everything possible to return to play soon as possible.”

There were also recent injury scares related to players such as Cheslin Kolbe and Eben Etzebeth, but both are set to be ready for the Rugby Championship, although scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse and veteran utility back Frans Steyn will miss the tournament due to injuries.

It’s already been confirmed that the final World Cup squad will be finalised and revealed on Tuesday, 8 August, and so there is relatively limited time for players to make a final push for selection.

While that’s the date set for the official public announcement, it’s also worth remembering that the players themselves will be confidentially informed either on the Sunday or Monday before then.

It effectively means that the shortened single-round Rugby Championship, which kicks off in July, will serve as the final opportunity for players to cement their place in the squad.
