DE RUYTER’S ESKOM CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS

SCOPA said the meeting with Gordhan would delve into de Ruyter’s allegations of “corruption, theft, maladministration, sabotage, lack of consequence management, cartels and other financial irregularities at Eskom.”

De Ruyter appeared before the Committee on 26 April to account for the allegations he made in a televised interview.

As previously reported, de Ruyter was reluctant to name the high-profile ANC politicians allegedly involved in Eskom corruption – as mentioned in the interview – during the meeting and told SCOPA to get the information from the officials he reported the matter to – Gordhan and National Security Advisor Dr Sydney Mufamadi.

GORDHAN TO FACE GRILLING

Since de Ruyter’s appearance, SCOPA has grilled South Africa’s law enforcement (SAPS, Hawks and SIU) and the Eskom board over the allegations. Gordhan was overseas recently on a working trip hence the delay in his appearance.

The meeting is expected to commence at 9:30.
