The City of Cape Town’s General Valuation Roll 2022 (GV2022) has now closed for public inspection – and complaints.

According to BusinessTech, the General Valuation determines what contributions property owners make to the shared rates account.

Rates are used for services shared by all residents, such as fire services, libraries, recreational areas, community facilities and clinics.

According to the City of Cape Town’s website, the new rates estimating calculator is still available, allowing property owners to see what their estimated rates could be from 1 July 2023.

THE CITY ALSO OFFERED A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE AS TO HOW TO USE THE CALCULATOR:


Step 1: Click on www.capetown.gov.za/GV2022

Step 2: Enter the ERF number of your property OR the Site Address (street number plus street name) of your property on the GV2022 Roll opening page (as below) and click on the ‘search’ button.

Step 3: Once your search returns results, scroll to find your property (it may take some scrolling depending on how ‘common’ the street name is). Once you have found it, click on the ‘Property Reference’ number in the first column.

Step 4: Select ‘Rates Estimation’ from the left-hand side menu. In addition to the estimated monthly rates payable, you will find other useful information regarding your property (or regarding your neighbours if you are nosy …!)
