The 2023 South African Car of the Year was announced on Thursday, 1 June and it might be a surprise to many people that the winner is a bakkie, namely the Ford Ranger.

The Ranger is the first bakkie to win the award in the competitions history which dates back to 1986, according to TimesLive.

Double Cab 4×4 category: Ford Ranger

Performance category: Audi RS 3

New-energy category: Volvo XC 40 P8 Recharge
