Ex-Bafana Bafana star closing in on sensational Sundowns return!
Mamelodi Sundowns look set to welcome back one of their former stars ahead of the start of the 2026-27 season.
Former Bafana Bafana starlet Cassius Mailula is closing on a sensational return to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mailula is currently a free agent following his release from Toronto FC at the end of last season.
The attacking midfielder’s career took a nosedive as soon as be left Sundowns for Toronto FC three years ago.
He never really cracked it in the Major League Soccer (MLS), and he found himself demoted to the reserve team within months of his stay.
Mailula also spent a season on loan at Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, thanks to Rulani Mokwena’s influence.
He then moved to Belgian outfit KV Kortrijk but had little impact all season, and the club later let him go.
CASSIUS MAILULA SET FOR SENSATIONAL RETURN TO SUNDOWNS
Now, following his release by Toronto FC, Mailula was spotted at Chloorkop where he initially wanted to keep fit.
However, the interest grew from both parties, and Mailula looks set to put pen to paper and complete a sensational return to Sundowns.
Mailula is part of the Sundowns squad that traveled to Austria for pre-season training on Thursday night.
Sundowns have already signed Antonio van Wyk from SV Ried and Siyanda Ndlovu from Golden Arrows.
WILL MAILULA HIT FORM AGAIN AT CHLOORKOP?
