I have just heard the most heart breaking story on Highveld Stereo this morning and am moved to spread the word. How could anyone ignore the desperate, desperate plea from this family. Bruno Pelizzari and Debbie Calitz were captured by Somali pirates as they were on their way to meet their first grandchild and have now been held for 15 (!) months in unknown conditions, possibly subject to abuse and/or deprivation.

The pirates are asking for $4m in ransom. The families are unable to raise anything close to an amount that would be acceptable to the hostage takers and are appealing to the generosity of the public, from all walks of life as the SA government has done nothing to help them.

I am appalled that all the South African government has not intervened to find these two innocent people, the extent of their offering is to offer the family “counselling”.

Please everybody, let’s stand together and help raise funding to start the negotiation process to free Bruno and Debbie. All you have to do right now (from SA only) is sms SOS 38417 and just R10 will go to the fund.

There is a worldwide policy not to negotiate with terrorists, but what IS being done by the consulate? Where are our special forces to help two innocent South Africans?

Well done Highveld Radio, for putting this out there the way you have today, and well done Vera on your relentless efforts to get your brother home.

Please everybody, don’t wait for someone else to do something, do your little bit to help. This is someone’s much loved mother and father, daughter brother and sister. Lets show our true spirit of generosity.
