Skytrax names Africa’s top low-cost airline
Skytrax recently revealed the 2025 World Airline Awards winners, naming one South African airline as the Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa.
Skytrax named the top-performing airlines across various categories at its annual World Airline Awards on 17 June 2025.
In the Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa category, one South African budget carrier claimed the top spot.
FlySafair beat out both LIFT Airline, last year’s winner, and Fastjet to earn the Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa for 2025.
Skytrax names World’s Best Airline
Known as ‘the Oscars of the aviation industry’, the World Airline Awards began in 1999, and are completely determined through a customer satisfaction survey conducted by Skytrax.
Skytrax once again crowned Qatar Airways as the World’s Best Airline, for a record-breaking ninth time.
Qatar Airways was also named the World’s Best Business Class airline and the Best Airline in the Middle East.
The top ten best airlines according to Skytrax were:

- Singapore Airlines
- Cathay Pacific Airways
- Emirates
- ANA All Nippon Airways
- Turkish Airlines
- Korean Air
- Air France
- Japan Airlines
- Hainan Airlines
