Uncertainty surrounds Floyd Shivambu’s future ahead of crucial MK address
South Africans are speculating that Floyd Shivambu’s political career with Zuma’s MK Party may be nearing its end.

Speculation is growing about Floyd Shivambu’s future in the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party ahead of his scheduled press conference on Thursday, 19 June.
The press briefing is expected to address “political developments in the country” and comes after MK Party president Jacob Zuma removed Shivambu from his role as secretary-general.
The party took action after Shivambu travelled to Malawi over Easter to attend a service at Shepherd Bushiri’s church.
Authorities consider Bushiri a fugitive after he and his wife, Mary, fled South Africa in 2020 while out on bail. They face fraud and money laundering charges.
IS FLOYD SHIVAMBU RETURNING TO EFF?
Speculation has begun circulating that Shivambu might return to the Red Berets. However, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema publicly dismissed the idea, stating that the Central Command Team (CCT) and the party’s National Assembly had rejected the proposal.
EFF Member of Parliament Sixolise Gcilishe also commented on the rumour surrounding Shivambu’s potential return.
“Juju [Malema] will sadly forgive Floyd, because he is a man with a beautiful heart. He’s forgiven people who have done worse to him. People who threatened his family and swore to bury him alive. He will forgive him [Shivambu]. But what he will not do is bring him back in the EFF. Unfortunately…”
Others are also suggesting that Shivambu may start his own party. During the MK Party’s launch of its youth division on Monday, 16 June, Zuma said those who wanted to leave the party were welcome to do so.
