The City of Cape Town will shut down the water supply in parts of the city for 11 hours on Monday, 7 July, to carry out planned maintenance from 9:00 to 20:00.

CAPE TOWN CONFIRMS 11-HOUR WATER SHUTDOWN

The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Strand (Algoa Street, Gants Plaza and surrounds) – A City-appointed contractor will replace a complex pipe on Monday, 7 July, causing a temporary water shut-off from 9:00 to 20:00. This work will affect water supply to Algoa Street and nearby streets in Gants Plaza, Strand. The City will deploy water tankers to the area during this time in coordination with the Local Ward Councillor.

Part of Brackenfell South – Likewise, the water supply to Crammix Road, Brackenfell South, will be shut off temporarily from 9:00 – 16:00 on Monday, 7 July.

Parts of Noordhoek – The City of Cape Town said maintenance teams will shut off the water supply to Noordhoek Main Road and the surrounding area in Noordhoek from 9:00 to 16:00 on Tuesday, 8 July, to connect bulk water infrastructure to a new development. This work will disrupt water supply to properties along Noordhoek Main Road and nearby areas.

Parts of Claremont and Newlands – Maintenance teams will conduct a test shut-off of the water main on Talana Road in Newlands from 9:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, 8 July, to prepare for the actual shut-off scheduled for Thursday, 10 July, during the same hours. On that day, they will connect the newly installed pipeline to the existing water supply infrastructure.

As a result, residents in Talana Road, Talana Close, Bowwood Road, Sylvia Road, Middelburg Close, Alma Road, Mountain Road, Doris Road, Ethel Road, Bishopscourt Road, Zion Road, Eden Road, and possibly the immediate surrounds will experience no water during this period.

Parts of Gordon’s Bay – Lastly, a temporary shut-off is scheduled from 09:00 – 16:00 on Tuesday, 8 and Wednesday, 9 July, affecting the following roads: Sir Lowry`s Pass Road, Avondrus Street, and Bluegum Avenue in Gordon’s Bay.

ZERO-PRESSURE TESTS

Moreover, the City of Cape Town said zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network, resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:

Strand (Algoa Street, Gants Plaza and surrounds) – A City-appointed contractor will be conducting a complex pipe replacement, which will result in a temporary shut-off from 9:00 – 20:00 on Monday, 7 July. This will affect water supply to Algoa Street and the surrounding streets in Gants Plaza, Strand. Water tankers will be deployed to the area during this time in consultation with the Local Ward Councillor.

Part of Brackenfell South – Likewise, the water supply to Crammix Road, Brackenfell South, will be shut off temporarily from 9:00 – 16:00 on Monday, 7 July.

Parts of Noordhoek – The City of Cape Town said maintenance teams will be shutting off the water supply to Noordhoek Main Road and the surrounding area in Noordhoek from 9:00 – 16:00 on Tuesday, 8 July, to facilitate a bulk water connection to a new development. This will result in the disruption of water supply to areas along Noordhoek Main Road and the surrounding area in Noordhoek.

Parts of Claremont and Newlands – Similarly, maintenance teams will be doing a test shut-off of the water main on Talana Road, Newlands, from 9:00 – 18:00 on Tuesday, 8 July in preparation for the actual shut-off from 9:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 10 July, when the newly installed pipeline will be connected to the existing water supply infrastructure.
