EThekwini Municipality announces water outage starting Tuesday
eThekwini Municipality will carry out maintenance from Tuesday to Wednesday, causing water supply interruptions in many areas.

The eThekwini Municipality has announced that many areas will face water supply interruptions as the uMngeni-uThukela Wiggins Water Treatment Works Gravity System temporarily shuts down.
The planned water outage will begin on Tuesday morning, 8 July, and continue through Wednesday, 9 July.
LARGE PARTS OF ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY FACING WATER SHUTDOWN
The eThekwini Municipality stated that the shutdown will enable the City’s bulk water supplier, uMngeni-uThukela Water (UUW), to replace the 1 200 mm diameter sales and check meters on the gravity bulk pipeline.
The work will also include repairing a leak on the aqueducts, which has hindered full recovery of the plant’s inflow since the April shutdown.
In preparation for the shutdown, uMngeni-uThukela Water will shut off the treatment works which will result in no water flowing into the City’s reservoirs.
“The City will endeavour to reduce the effect of the shutdown by topping up its reservoirs; however, water availability is dependent on consumer usage. Customers who may receive water during this period are urged to reduce consumption and to use water sparingly.
“The recovery process of the City reservoirs could take up to three days after the completion of the shutdown, with some reservoirs recovering sooner than others. Our teams will be closely monitoring the system to ensure the full restoration of water supply. Water tankers will be deployed to affected areas where necessary,” the eThekwini Municipality said.
