
Cape Town areas to face 10-hour power outage on Thursday
The City of Cape Town will perform essential electricity infrastructure maintenance on Thursday, leading to a 10-hour power outage.

The City of Cape Town’s electricity and generation teams will carry out a 10-hour power outage in Athlone on Thursday, 24 July, from 8:00 to 18:00 to maintain essential electricity infrastructure.
If everything goes according to plan, the maintenance will cause interruptions to the electricity supply.

The City of Cape Town has noted that interruptions to the electricity supply will only affect the highlighted area on the maps and will only occur on the specified date.

Impacted streets include:
- Forbes
- Covendon
- Blende
- Elwyn
- Saltire
- Unity
- Brand
- Raft
- Krieket
- Parkway
Earlier this week, Eskom also carried out planned maintenance on essential electricity infrastructure in Gordon’s Bay, Cape Town. The maintenance work was carried out on Wednesday, 16 July, from 7:40 to 17:00.
Similarly, the metro municipality also scheduled maintenance work that resulted in electricity supply interruptions in Silvertown, Athlone on Wednesday, 16 July, from 8:00 to 18:00.
POWER COULD BE RESTORED ANYTIME
Moreover, the City of Cape Town has warned that the electricity supply could be restored at any time and urged customers to treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the planned maintenance work.
“Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution and to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on.
“The City of Cape Town apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding,” the metro municipality said.
