KwaZulu-Natal residents can expect a wet and chilly week as a cold front moves in, bringing early morning fog, rain, and isolated thundershowers across much of the province.

Forecasters predict the wet conditions will last throughout the day, with temperatures staying cool to cold across the region.

Durban is forecast to reach a high of 21°C, while Richards Bay will top out at 20°C. Inland areas like Newcastle and Underberg will be significantly colder, with daytime temperatures in the low teens and even colder conditions overnight.

Widespread Rain Expected Along the Coastline

Forecasters expect widespread rainfall along the coastal areas, particularly the eastern shoreline and the nearby interior of KwaZulu-Natal, while other regions will experience isolated to scattered thundershowers.

Forecaster Phemelo Zonke said, “As the cold front has moved through, isolated showers and thundershowers in places over the interior are expected, reaching the southeastern coastline and becoming widespread along the eastern coastline.” She added that the public should take caution as some of the storms could be intense in isolated areas.

Severe Weather Alerts for Nearby Eastern Cape

Although KwaZulu-Natal is not currently under a weather warning, the extreme northeastern parts of the Eastern Cape bordering KZN may experience severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, strong winds, and hail. These conditions may influence the weather in northern KwaZulu-Natal, especially overnight.

The rest of the week is expected to remain cool, with partly cloudy skies and a chance of isolated showers continuing into Wednesday and Thursday.
