SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS
IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS
A. Yellow level 4 warning: Severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, damagingwinds, excessive lightning, and hail resulting in danger to life (fast flowing streams /deep water) due to flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas, resulting in closure of some bridges and roads, damage or loss of infrastructure, settlements (formal and informal), property, vehicles,livelihood, agricultural production and livestock as well as fire incidents (dwelling/veld fire) due lightning are expected over the western parts.
B. Yellow level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms leading to localized flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, as well as large amounts of small hail over an open area, heavy downpours and excessive lightning are expected over south-western parts of Gauteng, south- western Bushveld of Limpopo, northern parts of Free State and over North West province except over the north-western parts.

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces
Gauteng
Gauteng can expect morning fog in the south-east, with otherwise partly cloudy and cool conditions, accompanied by scattered showers and thundershowers.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, The Place of the Rising Sun, can expect morning fog along the escarpment and southern Highveld, otherwise partly cloudy skies with cool to warm temperatures and isolated to scattered showers.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, morning fog along the southern escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thunder- showers but scattered in the south-western Bushveld.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.
Free State
In Free State, partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.
Northern Cape
The day will start partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north-east. It will be fine in the extreme west, with morning fog along the coast, where it will be cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh, south to south-easterly.
Western Cape
Morning fog over the extreme north-western parts, otherwise fine and warm to hot, but partly cloudy along the coast and in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh, south to south-easterly, but light to moderate, west to south-westerly along the south coast, becoming light and variable from the evening onwards.
The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High.
Eastern Cape
The Western half: The day will begin with morning fog over the interior, otherwise fine and warm. Along the coast, it will be cloudy and cool, with light evening rain in some areas. Winds along the coast will be moderate to fresh from the south-west.
The Eastern half: The day will begin with morning fog south of the escarpment, then turn partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south-east and east. Coastal winds will start light and northerly, becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly.
KwaZulu-Natal
KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog over the southern and western interior; otherwise, skies will be partly cloudy with warm to hot temperatures and isolated showers and thundershowers, scattered in the north-west. Along the coast, winds will be moderate to fresh from the north to north-east, shifting south-westerly in the southern regions from the afternoon.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is very high.
