Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms that may cause localised damage and short-term disruption to essential services.

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS

Yellow level 1 warning: Severe thunderstorms leading to localised damage to infrastructure as well as localised short-term disruption to municipal services due to heavy downpours and strong wind are expected over the south-central parts of Limpopo and the eastern Highveld of Mpu

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Swartland Local municipality of the Western Cape.

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, The Place of the Rising Sun, can expect morning fog in places along the northern escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the eastern Highveld. It will be cloudy in the Lowveld.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, morning fog patches are expected in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-central, southern parts. It will be cloudy in the east.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east. Morning fog patches can be expected over the western parts.

Free State

In Free State, morning fog over the south and extreme east, partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east. It will be fine in the south.

Northern Cape

The day will start with morning fog in the extreme north-east and along the coast, otherwise fine and warm to hot. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-easterly.

Western Cape

Partly cloudy in the south-east, otherwise fine and warm to hot but very hot in places over the West Coast. The wind along the coast will be light and variable east of Cape Agulhas in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south easterly reaching strong between Cape Agulhas and Rietpoort.

The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: The day will be fine in the north, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with light rain in the extreme south-east. The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming light to moderate south-easterly in the afternoon.

The Eastern half: The day will start with morning fog in the extreme east, otherwise cloudy south of the escarpment where a 30% chance of light rain is expected, otherwise partly cloudy and cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming south-easterly in the afternoon, but light and variable in the evening.

KwaZulu-Natal

Morning fog over the interior, otherwise Cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southeasterly, becoming moderate northerly to north-easterly in the afternoon.
