Another Cape Town Spurs starlet fights to join Soweto giants!

The 20-year-old left-back joined Cape Town Spurs in 2016, and he’s been touted as a long-term replacement for Deon Hotto.

Cape Town Spurs starlet Reece Braithwaite is fighting tooth and nail to join Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.

Braithwaite has yet to report for duty at Spurs since their relegation to the ABC Motsepe League last season.

Pirates then threw Braithwaite a lifeline by offering him an opportunity to play for their DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team.

However, this deal is yet to be finalised as Spurs are refusing to issue Braithwaite his clearance.

Now, according to SABC Sport, Braithwaite has given Spurs until the end of the week to give him his clearance or take the matter to the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (PSL DRC).

The young left-back is reportedly training with the Pirates DDC team despite Spurs’ claims that he still contracted to them.

CAPE TOWN SPURS BLOCK BRAITHWAITE’S PIRATES MOVE BUT…

“SABC Sport has learned that Cape Town Spurs are headed for a showdown with defender Reece Braithwaite at the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber – unless the player is issued a clearance before the end of the week,” reads part of the report.

ANOTHER VELEBAYI, BAARTMAN SAGA

Braithwaite is facing a similar situation to that of Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman who both left Spurs for Kaizer Chiefs.

The duo took Spurs to the PSL DRC who declared them free agents and gave them the green light to join Amakhosi.

And should the matter ended up at the PSL DRC, Spurs are likely to lose on grounds that Braithwaite doesn’t have a professional contract with them.

Braithwaite, who joined Spurs as an 11-year-old in 2016, is seen as a long-term replacement for Deon Hotto.

He might have to read Itumeleng Khune’s advice to youngsters on how to handle their finances now that he’s likely to earn more money at Pirates.
