Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.
SAWS has issued Level 2 alerts, warning communities about intense thunderstorms expected over parts of South Africa. The systems could produce heavy rain, flooding, hail, strong wind gusts and frequent lightning.

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS
Yellow Level 2: Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours resulting in localised flooding of susceptible roads, settlements and low-lying bridges/areas, excessive lightning, large amounts of small hail, wind damages to infrastructure expected over Free State, south-western parts of North West, north-eastern parts of Northern Cape and the northern interior of Eastern Cape as well as the Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga.
FIRE DANGER WARNINGS
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape as well as the western parts of the Free State and south western part parts of the Western Cape.

Gauteng
Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect fine and warm, but hot to very hot in the Lowveld, becoming cloudy in the afternoon with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the Lowveld.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme south.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect fine becoming partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers.
Free State
In Free State, fine becoming partly cloudy and warm to hot, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the south west. It will be foggy in the west.
Northern Cape
The day will start fine and hot to very hot in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers. Morning Fog is expected along the coast. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south easterly.
Western Cape
Fine in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot over Bergrivier municipality. It will be cool in places over the southern parts, with light rain along the south-eastern parts in the morning. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south easterly along the south coast, otherwise fresh to strong.
The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High
Eastern Cape
The Western half: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and warm. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly.
The Eastern half: The day will start cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior, but scattered thundershowers in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly to westerly.
KwaZulu-Natal
Cloudy and cool, but warm in the north. Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected but widespread in the north-western interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north easterly in the north at first, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly to southerly.
