AFCON 2025: Sadio Mane’s strike sets new goalscoring record!
The previous edition of AFCON held in Cote d’Ivoire produced a record 119 goals but there’s a new record set by Sadio Mane’s strike.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has entered the semifinal stage as four teams advanced from the quarterfinals.
There have some brilliant goals scored throughout the tournament – some from outside the box and others from the penalty spot.
Now, with Mane’s goal, this is the first time in the history of AFCON that the tournament has produced 120 goals.
And there could be more with three games to go before the tournament concludes.
Senegal will face the winner between Nigeria and Morocco on Sunday, 18 January.

HOW MANY GOALS HAS AFCON 2025 PRODUCED?
To date, a total of 120 goals have been scored at this year’s AFCON tournament, we have a new goalscoring record .
In the group stages alone, the African continent witnessed 87 goals while the Round of 16 produced 22 goals.
It is worth mentioning that of the 120 goals scored, 12 were from the penalty spot.
Overall, a whopping 16 penalties were awarded in this AFCON edition, and with 12 converted, meaning 4 were missed.
Nigeria have contributed 14 of the 120 goals scored, the highest scored by any team so far in the tournament.
