Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.
The South African Weather Service has issued a heatwave advisory, warning that persistently high temperatures are expected until next Thursday.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and northern parts of the Northern Cape, western and central parts of the Free State as well as the extreme south-western parts of North West.
ADVISORIES
A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in places over Sarah Baartman, Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi, Alfred Nzo, OR Tambo and Amathole District Municipalities in the Eastern Cape, lasting until Thursday (29/01/2026).

Gauteng
Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect cloudy at first with morning drizzle along the escarpment and Lowveld, otherwise partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers over the Highveld.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, cloudy at first with morning light rain and drizzle in the central and eastern parts, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thundershowers in the south-west.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thunder- showers in the east. It will be fine in the extreme west.
Free State
In Free State, morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thunder-showers in the east. It will be fine in the west.
Northern Cape
The day will start fine and hot to very hot but warm along the coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly becoming strong from the afternoon.
Western Cape
Partly cloudy along the south coast at first, and along the south-west coast in the evening, otherwise fine and warm but hot over the interior. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south- easterly along the south coast, otherwise light to moderate southerly to south-westerly but strong along the northern parts of the west coast in the afternoon.
The expected UVB sunburn index is Very high
Eastern Cape
The Western half: Fine and warm to hot. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming light south-easterly in the afternoon, but light and variable in the evening.
The Eastern half: The day will start with morning fog in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with light rain in places along the East Coast and adjacent interior in the morning. It will become fine in the afternoon over the interior, but cloudy by late evening. The wind along the coast will be light and variable at first, becoming moderate to fresh north-easterly.
KwaZulu-Natal
Morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers except in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly in the north, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly spreading to the north by late afternoon
