Mamelodi Sundowns are the only South African team remaining in CAF inter-club competitions.

This after both Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC were eliminated in the CAF Confederation Cup last weekend.

Sundowns are in the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League following their 2-0 win over MC Alger on Saturday.

SA People takes a look at Sundowns possible opponents for the quarterfinals of this season’s edition.

SUNDOWNS’ POSSIBLE OPPONENTS IN CAFCC QUARTERFINALS

Sundowns will be in Pot 1 for the CAF Champions League draw which will be conducted on Tuesday, 17 February.

They have been placed in Pot 1 alongside Moroccan sides RS Berkane, AS FAR, and Tunisian giants Esperance.

This means the Tshwane giants CANNOT be pitted against the abovementioned three teams in the quarterfinals.

Pot 2 has Egyptian sides Pyramids, Al Ahly, Malian outfit Stade Malien and Al-Hilal who were in the same group as Sundowns.

Now, this means Sundowns CANNOT play Al-Hilal in the quarterfinals as they come from the same group.

The Brazilians can only draw Al Ahly, Stade Malien or Pyramids in the next round of this season’s competition.

A REPEAT OF LAST SEASON’S FINAL?

For some, a Sundowns vs Pyramids quarterfinal clash would be ideal given how their team lost to them in last season’s CAF Champions League final.

But for others, facing Stade Malien is a wish as they are not one of the favourites to win the continental trophy.

However, West African teams are slowly getting it right in CAF inter-club competitions, and Stade Malien could prove difficult.
