FIFA World Cup: Will SAFA convince Hugo Broos to stay?
Hugo Broos has won 28, drawn 16 and lost nine of the 53 official games he has been in charge of Bafana Bafana since May 2021.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has previously indicated that he will retire immediately after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Broos would have concluded his five-year contract with the South African Football Association (SAFA) as Bafana Bafana coach.
Now, with less than 100 days to go before the FIFA World Cup, SAFA is yet to publicly discuss Broos’ possible successor.
A number of coaches continue to be linked with the plum job, but SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan told the media that they are still going to sit down with Broos and discuss the future.
It appears SAFA is eager to convince Broos, who turns 74 on 10 April, to reconsider his retirement plans and stay as Bafana Bafana coach.

“One of the things that has delivered success for our national teams… because many people ask, ‘why are you achieving success now?’ The reason is simple,” said Dr Jordaan.
“We have not changed coaches over the last four years and before the expiry of their contracts – Hugo Broos has been serving his contract, we have to discuss with him.
“He’s indicated that at the end of his contract, he’ll have reached his retirement age, but we still have a conversation to have.”
