Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, cautioning that heavy downpours, strong winds, hail, excessive lightning, and possible localised flooding may affect parts of the country.

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect cloudy and warm weather with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the Lowveld.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the north and Lowveld.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect morning fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-east, where it will be cloudy.

Free State

In Free State, cloudy with morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme eastern and northern parts.

Northern Cape

The day will start cloudy in the morning with fog over the north-west, becoming fine by the afternoon, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east and central parts. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly, becoming light and variable from the evening.

Western Cape

Fine along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, but hot with isolated showers and thundershowers over the north-east. It will become partly cloudy over the Overberg District from the evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly in the west until the evening, otherwise light and variable.

The expected UVB sunburn index is Extreme

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers in the north. It will become cloudy with fog in places along the coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming southwesterly in the afternoon.

The Eastern half: The day will start cloudy with fog patches in places at first, otherwise fine and warm. The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming fresh to strong northeasterly.

KwaZulu-Natal

Cloudy with morning fog in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers except along the coast. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly until mid-morning, otherwise light to moderate northerly to north-easterly, reaching fresh in places in the afternoon
