Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

The South African Weather Service has issued a heatwave conditions advisory, stating that persistently high temperatures are expected across South Africa until Monday. In contrast, disruptive rain with heavy downpours that may cause flooding, along with strong winds, is also expected in two provinces.

SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS

A. Yellow Level 2 Warning: Disruptive rain leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, settlements, and low-lying areas/bridges is expected over north-eastern Mpumalanga and Limpopo, except the extreme south-west.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places in the extreme west.

ADVISORIES

A. 15-16/03/2026: A Heat Wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the Eastern Cape,
excluding the coast.

B. Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions in places along the coast and
adjacent interior between Port Alfred and Port Edward.

C. Very hot to extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the Namakwa district
(Northern Cape) and the Western Cape, except the southern parts of the City of Cape Town and the Garden Route, as well as the Overberg District (Western Cape).

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the south. It will be warm in the extreme north.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index is Moderate

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the south-west.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, cloudy and cool to warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the north-east.

Free State

In Free State, partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

Northern Cape

The day will start partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-easterly, becoming light and variable in the evening.

Western Cape

Partly cloudy and hot to very hot, but extremely hot along the west coast. It will be warm along the south coast. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected over the Central Karoo and extreme eastern parts of the Garden route from the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly, but fresh along the southwest coast.

The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly.

The Eastern half: The day will start partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thundershowers in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal

Morning and evening fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected but scattered in the extreme north where it will be cloudy. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly to north-easterly, reaching fresh in places in the south in the afternoon.
