Ramokgopa vows to end load shedding with Eskom’s 10-point plan

Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa introduced Eskom’s 10-point plan in the hopes of turning the country’s electricity crisis around.

Eskom’s 10-Point Plan key points touched on having better coal management, enhanced policies, increased procurement and funding.

Eyewitness News reported that Ramokgopa revealed at a media briefing in Tswana on Monday that they had a plan for the electricity crisis in South Africa.

This plan comes after the country has battled with continuous blackout that has affected the countries economy.

Confirmed by Ramokgopa the National Treasury has granted Eskom R78 billion to fast track the turnaround of the blackout crisis that is crippling the economy.

He went on and added that the five step aligns with the plan they have as the Eskom team.

Ramokgopa also believes that with new Eskom CEO Dan Marokane executing this plan will move swiftly.

RAMAPHOSA’S ‘ENERGY ACTION PLAN’ TO END SA’S ROLLING BLACKOUTS

According to the Daily Maverick, President Cyril Ramaphosa had drafted and announced his ‘energy action plan’ on 25 July 2022 to tackle South Africa’s blackout crisis.

Ramaphosa acknowledged that the recent stage 6 faced is clear that the actions they are taking are not enough.

“The crisis that we are facing requires that we should take bold, courageous and decisive action to close the electricity gap,” he said, continuing that, “as government, we are announcing a number of interventions to overcome the immediate crisis”.

According to the Daily Maverick, Ramaphosa announced five actions as well as “additional measures to achieve long-term energy security and end load shedding for good”. 

Ramaphosa’s plan entailed the first action was to improving the performance of Eskom’s existing fleet of power stations.

Second, Ramaphosa said the government intends to “accelerate the procurement of new generation capacity.”

Third, the President announced that the government would  “massively increase” private investment in generation capacity.”

Fourth, he said that the government would enable and incentivise businesses and households to invest in rooftop solar.

The President said his administration would attempt to “fundamentally transform” the electricity sector and position it for “future sustainability.”
