First National Bank (FNB) has reduced its car licence disc renewal fee from R99 to R69 for an unspecified “promotional period.”

This price reduction follows a prior cut in 2023 when the bank lowered its combined service and delivery fee for the same service from R199 to R99.

That previous adjustment had made FNB’s offering the cheapest option for car licence disc renewal among major providers in South Africa – on par with the National Traffic Information System’s online portal.

FNB customers can conveniently renew their license discs using the bank’s mobile app by utilising the nav»Car platform.

SIMPLE PAYMENTS THROUGH THE FNB APP

Customers can make payments through the app using their bank account, credit card or eBucks.

“This service from FNB is offered in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Corporation, with no paperwork, if you are the registered owner of the vehicle,” FNB said in a statement.

For every license disc renewal, FNB will also reward customers with R99 worth of eBucks while extending the promotion with a no-obligation car insurance quote from FNB Insurance.

MyBroadband has noted that the fees only cover service and delivery, and exclude the actual vehicle licensing cost. The latter varies based on the vehicle’s weight and the province of registration.

OVER 1 MILLION VEHICLES UPLOADED TO PLATFORM

According to Jolandé Duvenage, FNB CEO, the bank’s renewal service has continued to grow in popularity.

Over the past 12 months, more than 1 million new vehicles were uploaded to the bank’s platform, with 107 000 vehicle owners choosing to perform license disc renewals through FNB.

The platform also offers additional features such as free vehicle value estimates and payment of traffic fines.

It also gives customers options for comprehensive insurance and value-added products – such as stretch and dent protection and extended warranties.
