Where will police roadblocks be active this festive season?
Law enforcement is ramping up for the festive season. So, keep your eyes peeled when these police roadblocks come into operation.
It’s that time of year when festive season police roadblocks come into operation. This year the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has highlighting a series of routes it wants to concentrate on, reports Business Tech.

Between Friday 1 December 2023 and Monday 15 January 2024 – 46 days – you can expect heightened police roadblocks in the following areas. By setting these up, the RTMC hopes to get a handle on speeding, reckless driving, overloaded public transport and driver fatigue.
POLICE ROADBLOCKS COMING HERE
- N1 North from Carousel Plaza to Nyl Plaza.
- N4 East from Nelspruit to Machadodorp.
- N3 from Hilton to Durban.
- N2 from Mthatha to Kokstad.
- N1 from Bloemfontein to Colesburg.

Beyond these increased police roadblocks, taking a leaf out of the Western Cape’s zero tolerance book, there will be 24/7 patrols on major routes. Additionally, there will be tactical blue-light and high-visibility block patrol systems implemented, too.
YOUR CAR WILL BE IMPOUNDED
The RTMC noted that law enforcement will not hesitate to pull over, fine and even impound vehicles with any major mechanical defects. Same deal if your vehicle does not adhere to new, stricter traffic by-laws.
These include not driving with a license plate or having a cracked windscreen. As we’ve already reported, the RTMC will be clamping down on SA’s most hazardous roads, as far as fatalities are concerned.
