Cape Town’s Festive Lights to ‘Switch-On’ this weekend

The City of Cape Town’s Festive Lights Switch-On is scheduled to kick off this Sunday, 26 November 2023 on the Grand Parade.

According to the City, this will be the 54th installment of the fabulous, free event, which is a highlight on the City’s event calendar and attracts thousands of people of all ages from across the entire metropole, including a growing number of foreign visitors.

“It’s been a long year for many, and the winter cold and rains have added another dimension to the challenges that many of us face.  I, for one, am looking forward to the official start of summer, which is heralded by the switch-on of our festive lights.” Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis said.

There’s a new theme this year: Cape Town: A Future of Hope,with the City hoping to give festival-goers a glimpse into the future by combining the heritage of the Cape Town and natural environment with that of the promise of what a technologically charged tomorrow can bring.

“This year’s theme of A Future of Hope encapsulates our vision for our city, and what every Capetonian wants for our country too.  So, I hope you will all join me on the Grand Parade on 26 November for some fun, a sing-along and a good day out for all the family, as all are welcome,” Hill-Lewis said.

WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO AT THIS YEARS’ FESTIVE LIGHTS SWITCH-ON

Along with the new theme, festival-goers can look forward to an energetic line-up of gifted artists who will entertain, a youth performing arts competition, the main switch-on event which will be done by the Mayor, followed by a pyrotechnics display and an incredible light show mapped out on the wall of City Hall.
