Netball South Africa has officially released the final squad for the Netball World Cup tournament that will be staged in Cape Town led by skipper Bongi Msomi.

On Tuesday, Netball SA released 12 names of the players that will represent Mzansi at the eagerly anticipated global showpiece in the Mother City’s International Convention Centre between July 28 and August 06.

The list of netball players also consists of an additional three who will serve as reserves in coach Norma Plummer’s side.

Just prior to the announcement, the netball national team SPAR Proteas mentor, Plummer’s team assembled for a four-week training camp.

SPAR PROTEAS RELEASE WORLD CUP SQUAD

During the announcement, Netball South Africa president Cecilia Molokwane said they have given the coach and the entire team all the support they needed.

In addition, the NSA boss added that she hoped the team, led by skipper Msomi will do the nation proud and the tournament presented an opportunity for them to write their names in history books.

The announcement comes after the Netball World Cup trophy tour all over South Africa where the players also had a chance to mingle with the fans whilst inspiring the young children.

“As a federation, we have given coach Norma and the management team all the support they needed in preparing the best team for the World Cup,” said Molokwane on Tuesday.

“This will be for the first time in sixty years that a Netball World Cup is hosted on African soil, therefore our expectation for a podium finish as hosts is a fair one.”

MOLOKWANE URGES SPAR PROTEAS TO GO FOR A KILL

The inspired president, Molokwane urged Plummer’s charges to go all out and never be intimidated and become a spectator in their own backyard.

She also expressed belief in the players that are selected for the upcoming tournament as SPAR Proteas are touted as favourites to lift the coveted netball trophy.

“We can’t host and become spectators in our own backyard – we need to make sure that South Africa and other African countries make it to the podium come 6th August 2023,” she added.

“From Netball South Africa, we are pleased with the selected players, and we know for sure that they will do well. We are throwing all the much-needed support to the team, and we have full confidence in that and what they can deliver for us.

“This is their one chance to write their names in the history books.”

Meanwhile, the team is set to meet for the final training camp that will be hosted in Cape Town on July 14 as Plummer will fine-tune her preparations.
