Mixed-martial arts fighter Dricus du Plessis has thanked God and South Africans for standing in his corner following a tough few weeks. This follows his UFC 290 victory and his clash with rival Israel Adesanya.

Earlier this month, the Pretoria-born fighter won a crucial match against his opponent Robert Whittaker in Las Vegas. Dricus is billed to face off against Israel for the title in September.

DRICUS DU PLESSIS SHARES ‘APPRECIATION POST’

Taking to his Instagram account, Dricus dedicated an “appreciation post” to his biggest supporters.

Posting a picture of him in the ring at the UFC 290, the SA athlete reflected on his strong Christian faith.

He posted: “To me, every fight is dedicated to someone who helped me get to where I am on this amazing jour. This one was dedicated 100% to my Lord and saviour, JESUS CHRIST. Thank you, Lord, for this amazing blessing!

“Thank you for the blessing of talent, thank you for my family and friends and thank you for loving and protecting me in battle, and thank you Lord for blessing SOUTH AFRICA.”

He added: “I love you, and all honour of this win is in your name, AMEN.”

IS HIS FIGHT AGAINST IZZY STILL ON?

Dricus and Israel Adesanya were initially expected to face off in the ring on 10 September in Sydney, Australia.

But according to Izzy, the fight is off due to the South African developing a foot injury.

According to MMA News, Israel will now fight his “second choice” opponent, Sean Strickland.
