The warmer days are here, and that means it’s time for swimming.  Though Johannesburg is not located near the sea, it still has some cool places to take a dip.

Some of these pools are steeped in history. The charming period design elements on display at a number of these facilities are reason enough for checking out many of these public swimming pools.

JOBURG’S PUBLIC POOLS

The city has a number of impressive public pools where one can sunbathe, take a refreshing dip, swim laps or just wallow around in the water.

Here is a list of pools worth visiting if you need to beat the heat!

ELLIS PARK POOL

This public pool is located on the edge of the city, in the Ellis Park Sports Precinct.  It is actually a historic pool with attractive period features.

The venue boasts an Olympic-sized swimming pool.  It is one of only a few in Johannesburg that offers facilities of this size. For this reason, it is a popular place for swimmers keen on doing some training.
