Woolworths prosciutto price stuns South Africans
At Woolies, you can purchase an 8 kg whole leg of Prosciutto di Carpegna for a measly R9,999. So, what do you get for your money? You get a highly desirable cured meat, aged for 20 months and coated with a secret blend of lard and spices.
The box also contains a wooden base, a wooden arm, a metal ring, and a ham-slicing knife, among other tools, as well as a delectable, ready-to-eat, premium pork product. The product description includes “DOP,” which means Denominazione d’Origine Protetta.
This label guarantees that producers have processed, and packaged the cheese, prosciutto, or olive oil in a specific geographical zone and according to tradition. In other words, you know the product is good.
One user review on the Woolies product page reads as follows:
‘I had to buy an extra fridge to store it, but my doggos just love it as a special treat. Sooo delicious.’
We wonder if that’s a real review or pure trolling.

‘Nothing can POSSIBLY taste that good…’
