Brits: Two cousins kidnapped outside school

Police said cousins Zahraa Mohammed, 17, and Bataviya Mohammed, 19, were kidnapped in front of a school in Brits on Wednesday morning.

Police said cousins Zahraa Mohammed, 17, and Bataviya Mohammed, 19, were kidnapped in front of a school in Brits on Wednesday morning.

TWO COUSINS KIDNAPPED OUTSIDE BRITS SCHOOL

Brits police have launched a search for three unknown suspects following the alleged kidnapping.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani reports that the cousins were driving from Bataviya’s home in Brits to school in Hartbeespoortdam when a maroon Audi A3, bumped them head-on, forcing them to stop.

“Allegedly, two armed men came out of the Audi A3 and ordered the cousins to get into a white Volkswagen Polo GTI that was driving behind the Audi A3.”

Funani said the armed men also got into the VW Polo GTI and fled the scene with the victims inside.

“The victims’ Mercedes Benz and the Audi A3 were found at the scene.”- Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani said.

Police request anyone with information that can assist in the investigations to contact the station commander of Brits, Brigadier Ellen Emmanuel, at 082 447 7447.

The latest crime stats released by the South African Police Service (SAPS) show kidnappings increased from October to December, especially in Gauteng. 

A total of 77 kidnappings were reported in Gauteng, while 138 were reported overall in South Africa. In the North West seven kidnappings were reported during this period.
