Cape Town’s beloved market moves to a new location this October
A well-known Cape Town market is relocating this October, offering more space, additional parking, and its signature community atmosphere.

Cape Town’s popular Oranjezicht Market is set to begin a new chapter as it relaunches at its new location early next month.
The market will move to another well-known Cape Town destination, the V&A Waterfront.
Now in its tenth year, the community-style farmers’ market has established itself as a hub for local farmers, artisanal food producers, and small-scale makers.
Oranjezicht Market set for relaunch
The new location offers more space, a strong sense of authenticity, and what V&A Waterfront CEO David Green described as a “grounded vibe” rather than gentrification. Longtime visitors will enjoy familiar elements, including the signature woodchips underfoot, and the market will continue to welcome dogs.
To accommodate the Oranjezicht Market, the V&A Waterfront has invested in a custom wooden shed designed by a renowned architect.
The move also provides a practical benefit: additional parking for the thousands of weekly visitors.
Green said the relaunch forms part of a broader strategy for the Granger Bay precinct.
He added that Oranjezicht Market’s new setting offers improved flow and integration with the waterfront environment rather than standing apart.
Granger Bay expansion
The V&A Waterfront also recently broke ground on its highly anticipated R20 billion Granger Bay expansion, kicking off with “Phase Zero”, which includes crucial marine construction and infrastructure groundwork valued at R189.5 million.
This foundational work will stabilise the area for long-term development and includes the construction of a 540-metre seawall and two breakwaters stretching into Cape Town’s Table Bay.
Some other key highlights include:
- A R121 million basement behind The Table Bay Hotel
- A R1.35 billion super-luxury hotel featuring 142 rooms and six residences, opening March 2026
- A R901 million refurbishment of The Table Bay into the InterContinental Table Bay, operated by Sun International
- A R700 million 5 Dock Road residential development (completion this year)
- Coastal public amenities, including tidal pools, promenades, a coastal walkway, and slipways.
