Somerset Mall in Cape Town has announced a major redevelopment project to expand its retail space and upgrade visitor facilities, with the first phase scheduled for completion in November 2025.

The project will add approximately 5 500 square meters to the shopping centre, bring in over 50 new stores, and strengthen its position as a leading retail and leisure destination in the region.

Hyprop stated that the expansion aims to meet the growing demand in Somerset West and across the Western Cape.

“We’re excited to meet the growing demand here in Somerset West,” said Wayne Abegglen, Hyprop Portfolio Executive for the Western Cape.

“We’re bringing over 50 new stores, with a focus on athleisure and affordable luxury brands, plus a variety of new customer amenities to set a new standard for retail in the region.” he added.

What shoppers can expect

In addition to the new retail stores, the redevelopment will introduce sustainability initiatives, including solar power installations, water-saving systems, and other green technologies that meet global standards.

Visitors can also look forward to a redesigned layout, refreshed design elements, and better flow throughout the mall. The mall will also introduce extended trading hours, ticketless parking, and new electric vehicle charging stations.

Beyond retail, the project also includes upgraded family-friendly facilities, new dining options, restroom renovations, as well as an art mile featuring the work of a renowned sculptor.
