A cold front moving across South Africa’s interior will bring light snow to parts of the Eastern Cape on Wednesday, 6 August. Forecasters expect snowfall in the province’s northwestern and mountainous areas.

Forecaster Odirile Modipa confirmed the snowfall, saying, “Light snow has been observed over the northern parts of the Eastern Cape and is expected to continue into tomorrow.”

Weather: Thunderstorms Across Multiple Provinces

The cold front also caused scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Free State, Northern Cape, and Western Cape.

Authorities issued severe weather alerts, including a yellow level 1 warning for damaging waves along the southern coastline.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely in the central interior, including parts of the Northern Cape and Free State,” said Modipa.

She added that these could bring strong winds and hail.
