Curro Holdings, a prominent education group, swiftly acknowledged and addressed a controversial social media post on X portraying children in various workplace roles, which perpetuated inappropriate stereotypes.

The post, now deleted, drew criticism for depicting a black child as a cashier and a white child as a veterinarian.

CURRO HOLDINGS APOLOGISES FOR X POST

In response to the backlash, Curro Holdings issued a post on Facebook expressing regret for the offense caused and affirming their commitment to diversity and non-racialism in their schools.

Curro Holdings stated, “We apologise for the offense caused and are urgently following our internal processes to understand fully the circumstances of the post to ensure that such an error is not repeated in the future.”

RACISM ALLEGATIONS PLAGUE THE INSTITUTION

Moreover, this incident follows a string of controversies surrounding Curro Holdings, including recent allegations of racism at Curro Protea Glen in Soweto.

Earlier this year, the school suspended a teacher over accusations of racism, further exacerbating concerns about racial discrimination within the institution.

Furthermore, The South African reported that Curro Holdings has faced previous instances of racism within its schools, citing a case where the executive head of Curro Protea Glen was suspended for using derogatory language towards a teacher. The incident underscored ongoing challenges related to racial sensitivity and inclusivity within the organisation.

THE INSTITUTION SWIFTLY SUSPENDS TEACHER AMIDST RACISM ALLEGATIONS

In response to the saga of the teacher calling pupils monkeys, Curro Holdings swiftly took action by suspending the implicated teacher and launching a disciplinary inquiry in line with the company’s policies and procedures.

Additionally, the institution emphasised the company’s commitment to providing support to affected learners and their families, stating, “Curro commits to offering counseling or other support to the affected learners after engaging with their parents.”
