The ANC caucus at Drakenstein Local Municipality have welcomed the removal of DA mayor Conrad Poole during a motion of no confidence meeting on Wednesday.

This follows after allegations that members of the mayor’s executive have been paying him a monthly kickback came to light last year.

A total of 62 votes were cast, with 32 in favor of the motion and 32 in favor of a ballot paper. This resulted in a successful motion of no confidence against Poole.

ANC WELCOMES REMOVAL OF MAYOR

ANC Boland Region Executive Committee chairperson Thembekile Mangena said they will continue to monitor the situation closely and work towards the betterment of the municipality and its residents.

“This victory underlines the fact that the DA has lost its pseudo moral compass and grandeur of good governance. The Democratic Alliance has always been a corrupt organisation hiding behind superiority complex.

This proves that the ANC is placed at the right side of history. A solid tone has been set in the Western Cape for removal of the DA.

We call on voters to come out and ensure an ANC victory on 29 May 2024.

DA SAYS A NEW MAYOR WILL BE ELECTED SOON

DA Provincial Leader, Western Cape Tertuis Simmers said the party notes the removal of Drakenstein mayor Poole through a motion of no confidence tabled by the ANC in council.

“Drakenstein is one of the best-run municipalities in the country as confirmed by their back-to-back clean audit reports and many service delivery accolades.

The DA assures residents that service delivery will continue unaffected, and since we have a majority in council, a new DA mayor will be elected in due course,” he said.

Simmers said in the interim, Deputy Mayor Gert Combrink will take over the responsibilities of the Office of the Executive Mayor.
