World-renowned health expert and former president of the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA), Dr. Kgosi Letlape, who resigned from the ANC recently, was named as part of ActionSA’s ‘Team Fix South Africa.’’

Party leader Herman Mashaba said this is a team of candidates that have been assembled by the party as part of its Parliamentary list to address the challenges facing our nation.

“Having co-founded the Africa Harm Reduction Alliance, which focuses on creating awareness and educating people about the need to reduce harm and promote well-being, Dr Letlape is well-equipped to realise our vision where healthcare is not only reactive but also proactively managed to improve the quality of life of our people,” Mashaba said.

INSTRUMENTAL IN BUILDING ACTIONSA HEALTH POLICY

He said Letlape had made history by becoming the first black ophthalmologist in South Africa, and the wealth of expertise has been instrumental in developing ActionSA’s healthcare policy.

“Along with healthcare, we will take a laser-like focus on community welfare, including drugs and substance abuse,” Mashaba added.

DR KGOSI LETLAPE RESIGNS FROM ANC OVER NHI DISPUTE

Letlape resigned from the ruling party over the National Health Insurance (NHI), which he has been very critical of, saying it is the government’s new scheme to misuse public funds.

“NHI, as proposed, is going to be for those employed, not on medical aid being taxed. Why can’t they get their ducks in a row and understand that their responsibility is to all South Africans, not to create new nest eggs to eat from?” Letkape told The Voice of the Cape.

“This doesn’t make sense; it defies logic, and if anyone thinks what is being proposed is a reform, no; what is being proposed is a new fund to eat from,” Letlape said.

TEAM FIX SOUTH AFRICA CAN LEAD THIS COUNTRY – MASHABA

Mashaba says ‘Team Fix South Africa’ has the depth of leadership necessary to lead this country, and to build a better future.

“They show that it is possible to have a credible alternative in South Africa that is able to steer the country in a better direction compared to the past 30 years of failed ruling party rule,” he said.

He founded the Africa Medical Association and served as the president of the Health Professionals Council of South Africa. He is President of the World Medical Association and Executive Director of the Tshepang Trust.

Letlape is also a member of The Global Hygiene Council.
