Durban shuts down another beach – here’s the reason why
eThekwini Municipality has revised its list of open beaches in Durban, announcing the closure of another one.
The eThekwini Municipality has once again updated the public on which Durban beaches and pools are safe and open for swimming.
As of 22 May, the municipality announced the closure of another Durban beach due to poor water quality, adding to the already shut Anstey’s Beach.
The currently closed Durban beaches are:
- ANSTEY’S BEACH
- LAGUNA BEACH
“This status of beaches and pools will be updated as and when their status changes. You can still enjoy other recreational activities at closed beaches. You just can’t swim.” the municipality said.

The following 21 beaches in Durban are currently open for swimming between the hours of 06:00 and 18:30:

Open public swimming pools
Alongside updates on open beaches, the eThekwini Municipality announced that 40 public swimming pools across Durban are now open to residents. These include:

Swimming pools are open from 6:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday, then from 9:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays.
