Ekurhuleni library faces closure after ceiling collapses due to heavy rains

The Langaville Library, a cherished institution in Ekurhuleni, is closing due to severe damage caused by heavy rainfall.

The Langaville Library, a beloved institution within the City of Ekurhuleni, is now faced with an unfortunate closure.

This decision was necessitated by the recent and severe damage caused by heavy rainfall. Resulting in the collapse of the library’s ceiling and substantial roof damage.

The safety of both library users and staff is paramount, prompting the city’s choice to temporarily suspend operations.

Zweli Dlamini, the city’s spokesperson, provided insight into the situation, stating, “We have already received a quote of R3.9 million for the essential structural repairs required to restore the library. Our insurance claim has been initiated, and once approved, work will commence promptly.”

WHAT ARE PATRONS WHO HAVE THE LIBRARY’S BOOKS ENCOURAGED TO DO?

“We understand that many patrons still have our books and may be unsure how to manage them in the absence of the Langaville Library. The good news is that these materials can be returned to any of our other libraries throughout the city, and we strongly encourage the public to do so.”

For those who relied on the Langaville Library, particularly learners in the midst of their academic endeavors. The city encourages the use of nearby libraries as a viable alternative.

“As we approach the critical period of the academic year, our libraries are well-equipped to support learners as they prepare for their final examinations,” said Dlamini.
