EThekwini Municipality’s acting mayor, Nkosenhle Madlala, has announced that the recently closed Durban beaches will reopen next week.

Over ten beaches were temporarily closed due to high levels of E.coli recently but eight have been reopen.

ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY TO REOPEN DURBAN BEACHES

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika on Thursday, 5 December, Madlala said Durban has 23 beaches, and only two were closed entirely due to high levels of E. Coli, which are Reunion and Anstey’s beaches. However, by the next week, they will be operating.

“We can assure our visitors that those two will be open again by the coming weekend. We will have our fully fledged 23 beaches that will be opened,” he said.

Madlala said they were giving daily updates about the two beaches that were closed. Workers were on the ground fixing burst pipes, which affected the quality of the water.
