IFP TO RENAME MUNICIPALITY AFTER LATE PRICE MANGOSUTHU BUTHELEZI

IFP-led uMzinyathi District Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal propels forward with renaming proposal honouring late founder, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

Sunday World reported that during an interview with mayor Petros Ngubane he said the decision had already been approved by the council.

“The ANC nationally and provincially has not raised its objections or shown any desire to oppose it. This makes our work easier,” Ngubane said.

According to Ngubane, the move will leverage tourism spin-offs and help put the district on the map, reported by Sunday World.

ACTIONSA CALLED FOR RENAMING OF MUNICIPALITY IN KZN

According to IOL , December 2023 ActionSA leader in KwaZulu-Natal, Zwakele Mncwango, wants eThekwini Municipality to be renamed after the late IFP leader, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

Mncwango said he would be consulting the Buthelezi family soon and present a proposal at a council meeting.

Despite suspicions from both the IFP and ANC, Mncwango’s proposal was seen as a strategic move for public relations and electioneering.

Mncwango made the surprise proposal at the provincial memorial service for Buthelezi which was organised by the IFP in Durban.

Mncwango expressed admiration for politicians from various parties who attended Buthelezi’s memorial service at KwaPhindangene Palace near Ulundi before the funeral, praising the statesman, reported IOL.

The ANC scoffed ActionSA’s call to rename eThekwini Municipality after the late Zulu traditional prime minister.

ANC provincial spokesperson Mafika Mndebele said Mncwango had shown that what the ANC had been saying about him was true ,that he was a ‘political comic’ who should not be taken seriously every time he opened his mouth.

Mndebele expressed that Mncwango’s sole focus seemed to be on grabbing attention in the media, regardless of whether his actions or statements were coherent.
