The City of Joburg could face the possibility of getting a new mayor by the end of next week, should ActionSA’S motion of no confidence be successful.

ActionSA leader in Johannesburg has labelled mayor Kabelo Gwamanda as a puppet elected to do the EFF and the ANC’s bidding.

IS JOBURG GOING TO GET ANOTHER MAYOR?

Gwamanda was elected in April, following Thapelo Amad’s resignation. Amad too faced a motion of no confidence.

ActionSA’s decision to table the motion, has been on file since June following criminal charges against the Mayor. He has been accused of running a ponzi scheme that defrauded a number of residents in Soweto.

ActionSA leader in Johannesburg Nobuhle Mthembu says the ANC-EFF puppeteering has been proven over and over as the coalition partners have constantly shielded Gwamanda from the media.

“With a budget close to a whooping R80 billion, the City of Johannesburg needs a credible leader at its helm. As a party which values ethical leadership, ActionSA believes it is in the best interests of the residents of Johannesburg that our executive leadership is beyond reproach” says Mthembu.

ACTIONSA TO RALLY OTHER POLITICAL PARTIES

Mthembu has also accused the mayor of shielding a municipal executive despite damning evidence.

“Gwamanda has also repeatedly shielded his very own executive when they were found to be overreaching especially with Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Economic Development, Nomoya Mnisi, remaining in office despite damming allegations that she directed a city entity to pay the ANC Youth League close to a million rand”, she says.

The motion will be tabled next week, in the next Ordinary Council meeting on 31 August.
